2009 Sail Salem Spring Laser Open

Notice of Race

Sail Salem and the Sail Salem Laser Fleet would like to invite you to the first annual Spring Laser Open to be held on Salem Harbor on Saturday May 30th. This regatta will be an open laser regatta for Lasers, Laser Radials, and Laser 4.7s for all ages.

The regatta site will be at Sail Salem headquarters on Winter Island. Winter Island presents an ideal location for hosting a laser event. There are three beaches to launch from as well as the North Shore’s largest public boat ramp. May is also a great time for families in Salem. The parks are all open for the season and the town is not yet overcrowded. The Peabody Essex Museum has several amazing current exhibits and the Salem National Maritime Park, and downtown shops and restaurants are all a short walk or trolley ride from the regatta facility. Park at the regatta and leave your car for the day to enjoy downtown.

Directions

Since it is October in Salem, there can be traffic downtown. We suggest you take the “back” way into Salem through Beverly. Get off at the route 62 exit of route 128.

1. Head southeast on Elliott St/RT-62 toward Liberty St (2.3 mi)
2. Turn right at Rantoul St/RT-1A Continue to follow RT-1A (1.9 mi)
3. Turn left at Webb St (0.4 mi)
4. Slight left at Fort Ave (0.7 mi)
5. Slight right at Winter Island Rd (0.4 mi)
6. Once in the park, stay left and go to the boat ramp.
7. Turn right in front of the airplane hangar, and continue to the field behind the hangar. We will be parking on the hill behind the hangar.

This will be a one day regatta open to all laser sailors. We will run as many quality races as possible and will have awards and refreshments immediately after racing.
