2010 Sail Salem Founders Cup

Sail Salem and the Sail Salem Laser Fleet would like to invite you to the third annual Founders Cup to be held on Salem Harbor on Saturday October 2nd. This regatta will be an open laser regatta for Lasers, Laser Radials, and Laser 4.7s for all ages.

The regatta site will be at Sail Salem headquarters on Winter Island. Winter Island presents an ideal location for hosting a laser event. There are three beaches to launch from as well as the North Shore’s largest public boat ramp. May is also a great time for families in Salem. The parks are all open for the season and the town is not yet overcrowded. The Peabody Essex Museum has several amazing current exhibits and the Salem National Maritime Park, and downtown shops and restaurants are all a short walk or trolley ride from the regatta facility. Park at the regatta and leave your car for the day to enjoy downtown.

As many quality races as possible will be sailed.

1100-1200 Check-in and registration
1200 Skippers meeting
1230 Harbor Start
1300 First warning signal
1600 Racers return to the dock
1630 Refreshments and prizes on Winter Island.

Directions

1. Take exit 25A for MA-114 toward Salem — 0.1 mi
(Each of the next 5 steps is on route 114, it just takes a windy route.)
2. Continue straight — 0.2 mi
3. Slight right at Andover St — 0.5 mi
4. Turn left at Endicott St — 0.1 mi
5. Slight right at Gardner St — 0.5 mi
6. Turn right at MA-114/Margin St Continue to follow MA-114 — 1.4 mi
7. Slight right onto the ramp to Bridge St — 436 ft
8. Turn right at Bridge St — 0.2 mi
9. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit and stay on Bridge St — 0.5 mi
10. Turn right at Webb St — 0.4 mi
11. Slight left at Fort Ave — 0.7 mi
12. Slight right at Winter Island Rd — 0.3 mi
13. Once in the park, stay left and go to the boat ramp.
14. ***Turn right in front of the airplane hangar, and continue to the field behind the hangar. We will be parking on the hill behind the hangar.

This will be a one day regatta open to all laser sailors. We will run as many quality races as possible and will have awards and refreshments immediately after racing.
